Facebook Might Pay You $10,000 Soon

California, USA : Facebook is currently facing legal actions for violating one of it's privacy policies. According to the lawsuit that was filed in December 2013, Facebook was said to be scanning users private messages for link in private messages. This intrusion violates the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and California’s privacy and unfair competition laws.

Facebook would scanned links shared among friends via private messages and followed such links search the sender browser's history, this is then used for advertising purposes.

Facebook claimed that the message interceptions were lawful as they had occurred during it's course of business. The judge, Phyllis Hamilton disagrees with the argument from Facebook counsel and says that Facebook has not offered a sufficient explanation of  how the business falls into the ordinary course of it's business.

Facebook counsel also suggested that because the practice is in the service of making money, it falls within the ordinary course of it's business.

If the lawsuit is successful, Facebook might be asked to pay $10,000 for it's users.
