While the US election was shocking to the world, Yahya Jammeh conceding election to Adama Barrow was another shock, not only to Gambians, but to other African nations.
Yahya Jammeh has been portrayed by the media as a political thug and corrupt leader in the Gambia, and many had thought he would change the course or result of the election, one of the reasons his opponent had waited before accepting his victory.
Instead Jammeh called the newly elected President, Adama Barrow, and congratulated him on the election. He then went ahead and offer the hand of friendship and also of advise to the newly elected leader.
Jammeh had ruled the country for 22 years.
