Many Russians protesters despite the frigid weather on Sunday turned up en masse to support opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was also arrested when he was walking to the demonstration in Moscow.

Alexei was wrestled to the ground as he makes his way to the Moscow demonstration to join the other protesters who had come out to support his call for the Russia election boycott. He is one of the top rival of President Vladmir Putin at the moment, and seems to want to stop the Russia president from his fourth term Presidential agenda.

Alexei is not currently permitted to run for the office of the highest office in Russia after an embezzlement conviction, a case which he believed was politically motivated.

After he was detained on Sunday, he later tweeted to his supporters that he had been released in late Sunday evening before a trial, and the Russian police have said that he would likely be charged with a public-order violation for calling unauthorized demonstrations.

In a move that might anger Russian leaders, the Washington DC recently vote unanimously to rename the Russian embassy street after slain opposition leader, Boris Nemtsov.

Boris was killed outside Kremlin in 2015 while walking home from a restaurant in 2015.

According to the Washington Council, the decision was targeted at "the portion of Wisconsin Avenue in front of the Russian Embassy". The daughter of Nemtsov, Zhanna had travelled to Washington to ask the council for the move to honour his dad. She praised her father as open-minded and a Russian patriot that deserves a commemoration. She added;

The current Russian political regime wants to eradicate the memory of my father, since it believes - correctly - that symbols are important and that they can potentially facilitate and inspire change. For now, we cannot do it in Russia because of unprecedented resistance on the part of the Russian authorities. But we have a chance to do it here - and here, it will be very difficult to dismantle.

Reacting to the news of the name change of the street of the Russian embassy in Washington, Russia Interfax news agency quoted the leader of the nationalist LDPR party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, as saying US authorities "specifically want to play dirty tricks in front of the Russian Embassy".

Another leader that reacted to the news is Dmitry Novikov. He told the agency ;

      "The US authorities have long been absorbed in their own game of interfering in Russian internal affairs."

Boris Nemtsov was a vocal critic of Vladmir Putin.

President Putin in his new marathon annual Q&A session praises his new American counterpart, President Donald Trump.

Speaking to 1,600 reporters, President Putin said that he and Donald Trump called each other on the first name basis, and added that that should be the relationship between the two countries. The Russian President also debunks the Russia meddling in US elections, calling it a ruse started by Donald Trump enemies.

When asked about his thought on Trump's presidency performance, Putin said;

It's not for me to evaluate the president's work. This needs to be done by the voter, the American people. We are objectively seeing that there have been some major accomplishments, even in the short time he has been working.

Look at how the markets have grown. This speaks to investors' trust in the American economy. It speaks to what President Trump is doing in this sphere. With all due respect to Trump's opponents, this is an objective fact.

Though President Trump had looked forward to a very strong relationship between the US and Russia, the different news of Russia meddling in the US election had affected such relationship as US investigators continue to investigate the connection between different Trump campaign team and their Russia meeting.

Russia president, Vladmir Putin has announced he will be running for re-election again in the 2018 National election. Putin has been in power since 2000, either as Prime Minister or President, and if he wins the 2018 election, he will serve the country till 2024.

President Putin announced his candidacy at a car factory in the Volga city of Nizhny Novgorod, and according to recent polls, Mr Putin stands to win the election than the Russian TV journalist Ksenia Sobchak who intends to run against the incumbent government.

Putin is seen as a leader that has restored Russia glory and global standing, especially with the military, while opponents have seen him as a harbinger of massive corruption in Russia.

A new report by the British Intelligence community revealed that Russian President, Vladmir Putin allegedly ordered the killing of Alexander Perepilichnyy, a financier,  who exposed a lot of financial crimes by the Russian government.

Perepilichnyy was found dead outside his Surrey apartment in the UK in 2012, shortly after returning from Paris in 2012. The British investigator found a fatal plant poison in his stomach, but insisted there was no foul play in his death.

Theresa May's government later told investigators to withhold inquest into the cause of his death, as the government invoked its national security powers.

According to Buzzfeed, who later revealed how Perepilichnyy spent his last days in Paris in 2012, it reveals new evidence that was knowingly sidelined by authorities, secret documents and interviews with dozen current and former intelligence and law enforcement officials in the US, France, and the UK. They revealed;

  • US spies said they have passed MI6 high-grade intelligence indicating that Perepilichnyy was likely "assassinated on direct orders from Putin or people close to him” and lambasted the British police for their “botched” investigation.
  • A highly classified report on Russian state assassinations compiled for the US Congress by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence last year asserts with “high confidence” that Perepilichnyy’s murder was sanctioned by Putin, Russia's president.
  • French police are treating the financier’s death as a suspected organised assassination – but say they have been repeatedly stonewalled by their British counterparts.
  • Perepilichnyy travelled to Paris before his death for a secret assignation with a 22-year-old Ukrainian woman named Elmira Medynska, who gave an exclusive interview to BuzzFeed News, but who British and French police never spoke to.
