corruption in Nigeria

New pictures of the Nigerian former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has emerged to the outside world courtesy of Ovation magazine. The picture shows the once former beautiful woman, whom many allege could be having an affair with the former Nigerian president looking like a picture of herself in 92 years.

The picture shows Diezani with bulging eyes, bald with tiny grey hair at the side and a caption that says "I did not steal Nigeria's money"

Diezani Alison-Madueke was reported to be hiding out in the UK, and had fallen sick after it was reported that the current government of Muhammadu Buhari is looking into her corruption charges while she was in office. It was reported that the former minister conspired with rich business magnate, Kola Aluko to siphon funds from Nigeria, using different tactics.

While she is undergoing investigations, both by Nigeria's anti-graft agency and the help of the UK, Diezani was reported to have run around the country looking for a father figure that will appeal on her behalf to return part of the money, and the current charges go away, but the current administration stand on corruption disagrees with her and ask she face charges, and if innocent, can go back to her life, and if guilty, she should face the music.

The Buhari administration stand on corruption had seen it watch from the sideline that current charges levied against the senate speaker, Bukola Saraki. Even though Saraki played a vital role during the election of the current administration, the administration is looking the other way, and letting the speaker dance to the music all by himself.

Former governor of Akwa-Ibom and senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio have been arrested on Friday by the Economic and financial crime commission. Akpabio arrived at the EFCC office at 5:20pm on Friday in the company of a senior advocate of Nigeria, Ricky Tarfa.

The EFCC had been investigating the administration of the former governor after an allegation of  N108.1billion of Akwa-Ibom funds  squandered by the governor during his administration. The scandalous spending had angered some circle in Akwa-Ibom and different Akwa-Ibom indigenes had sent petitions to the commission to investigate the former governor, and also some letters had been written to Muhammadu Buhari too.

An Abuja-based lawyer,  Leo Ekpenyong, had written a letter addressed to President Buhari on June 8, calling for the president to probe the looting, and also call on EFCC to start an investigation of the looting, and he was invited by the EFCC to adopt his petition on June 17 and clarify of all allegations he had made in his petitions.

Godswill Akpabio, a close ally of the former governor is also known for spending Akwa-Ibom funds carelessly, and it was alleged that between the January and December 2014, he had colluded with two of his top aides to cart away a sum of N108.1 billion from the state treasury.

Mr. Leo Ekpenyong had accused the former governor of conniving with former Government House Permanent Secretary, Etekamba Umoren, and the former Accountant General of the state, Udo Isobara to loot the state funds. In the petition, he wrote;

Between January –December 2014, it is on record that the trio of Godswill Akpabio, Mr. Etekamba Umoren and Mr. Udo Isobara, made illegal but substantial withdrawals of cash from a designated state government-owned account with Zenith Bank with account number: 1010375881 amounting to N22.1 billion.

It is worthy of note that reasons for such ungodly cash withdrawals against financial regulations and due process laws range between sundry use and unjustifiable expenditures by Godswill Akpabio and his numerous surrogates and proxies.

For example, a whopping N18 billion was withdrawn fraudulently from the state FAAC account with the United Bank for Africa in trenches of N10 million and above by Mr. Isobara in a surreptitious manner to conceal their dishonest intention.

For assisting the governor to steal the funds, Etekamba Umoren was made the chief of staff, and now also the secretary to the state government under Udom Emmanuel’s administration. Also Akpabio was alleged to have spent N50 Billion during the last general election to see to his preferred candidate winning the governorship election to cover up the tracks.

Some assets of Godwill Akpabio as stated by the legal practitioner includes;

Multi-billion naira mansion at Plot 5 Okogosi Spring Close, off Katsina-Ala Crescent, Maitama-Abuja, a multi-billion naira mansionette at Plot 28 Colorado Close, Maitama, Abuja and another multi-billion naira mansion at 22 Probyn Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Others include a multi-billion naira mansionette at Plot 23 Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview, Lagos and a multi-billion naira 25 storey building at Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The meeting between the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari and the National Peace Committee for the 2015 general election, led by former military head of state Lieutenant General Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd) had entered a deadlock after Buhari insists that the people who looted Nigeria money during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan would soon be in court.

The committee went to meet with the president, but instead were surprised at the stance of the former army general and his utterance during the meeting that ended after 30mins. The committee  went to meet the president to pacify him in the ongoing hunt for corrupt politicians who had looted from the Nigeria purse, but the president insisted on moving forward with investigation and anybody found guilty will be probed.

Buhari with the National Peace Committee (NPC)

During the president's recent visit to the US, American officials had handed over dossiers of corrupt officials during the Jonathan-led administration, Mr Buhari then went through the list of corrupt officials and this makes him furious at the sight of corruption that had eaten through the Nigeria system.

Another personality that had failed to pacify the Nigerian president is the former Commonwealth Secretary General, Emeka Anyaoku, who had met with the president and told him to let "bygone be bygone" just before his visit to the US. President Jonathan had called on Mr Anyaoku to intercede on his behalf.

One of the Jonathan-led government officials had stolen as much as $6 Billion dollars while in office, and this is something that also triggered the anger of Muhammadu Buhari. This was revealed by Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole, who was also part of the Mr Buhari entourage to the US. Though Oshiomole did not reveal the name of the person in charge, but hands and head are pointing towards the former minister of petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Diezani Alison-Madueke before the end of Jonathan tenure had met him to find a way where he would be saved from the hand of the incoming government, but when Jonathan saw what she had done in the corruption scandal, he shouted at her to get out from his office and face the music, Alison-Madueke had visited Jonathan back then with Lieutenant General Abdulsalam Abubakar.

When that failed, she (Alison-Madueke) a staunch good looking woman, who was once alleged of having a sizzling romance with the past president, Goodluck Jonathan, who after many cries of the masses and media, she was left in the office amidst corruption scandal, her friend, Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi was chased out of office after the many corruption allegation was leveled against her.

After President Buhari returned back from the US trip, Goodluck Jonathan decided to step-up to Muhammadu Buhari by having a one-on-one secret meeting with the president, which happened on Thursday last week in the dead of the night. Jonathan had met with Buhari to talk him into stopping the corruption hunt of his government. But unfortunately when they met, Mr Jonathan, was unable to make a clear point and changed the subject of visit into asking Mr Buhari about his government and how he is being coping. Mr Jonathan is a soft-spoken person, an attribute many of the past officials had used to get corrupt under his administration.

According to Sahara reporters, the persistence of Mr Buhari had driven Ms Jonathan into depression mode. Ms Alison-Madueke is also said to have collapsed in her posh apartment in due to “exhaustion”  and was recently hospitalized at a UK hospital.

After the Goodluck Jonathan meeting with Buhari, another person interested in the meeting is Olusegun Obasanjo, who later called the Presidential villa less than 24 hours to know what Jonathan had come there to do. He also arranged to meet the president behind close doors.

During the meeting with Buhari, Obasanjo advices Buhari to jail Goodluck Jonathan if he is found guilty, he then promised to assist in the probing of the corrupt officials, and even go as far as telling the president that he will use his international contacts to help trace all the stolen funds during the president Jonathan administration.

When Jonathan learnt that Obasanjo had met with Buhari after his own meeting, he immediately knew that it was not a meeting that would favour his last meeting with Buhari, that was then he called on the National Peace Committee for the 2015 general election led by Lieutenant General Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd) to intervene in the issue.

One man in the peace committee train to Aso rock is Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. The pastor tagged by Nigerian netizens as the "Bling-bling" pastor, a name he was given due to his "Jesus piece" and also known for putting on gold jewellery.

Oritsejafor was the pastor who used his private jet to launder $9.3 million dollars in a arms deal scandal. The jet was discovered and confiscated in South Africa with a million cash inside the aircraft. Oritsejafor who probably had Jonathan number on the speed dial used his influence to get the Jonathan administration say the cash was supposed to get arms to fight Islamic insurgent, Boko Haram in the Northern Eastern part of the country.

Mr Buhari had known about the NPC meeting and was ready to give a good reply when they are around. In the meeting, some of the past officials that will be used as a scapegoat in the fight against corruption are :

Former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd)

Former Petroleum Minister, Alison-Madueke

Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan,

Former Attorney general, Mohammaed Bello Adoke

Amnesty Office, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC),

Federal Capital Territory

Gordon Obuah, a former Chief Security Office

Mr Buhari maintains his stance that all treasury looters will face trial as soon as possible.

PDP senators led by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi have warned the Nigerian federal government not to use the Economic and Financial crime commission (EFCC) to intimidate its senators. The senators said that President Buhari should not make sure to warn people working with him not use his own good name to use EFCC as a machinery to fight their political opponents.

Senator Nwaoboshi warned that any attempts by the current administration to use the EFCC against the senators during this time of the crisis rocking the National assembly will constitutionally and unlawfully resisted, and would have dire consequences on governance in the country.

Senator Peter Nwaoboshi in his statement said :

As much as we are not against the anti-corruption agencies performing their statutory duties, the invitation by EFCC to the wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki, clearly indicated that the threat by a group within the National Assembly to use all means to fight the National Assembly leadership is now being carried out

Nigerians should ask the EFCC what it was waiting for all this while before realising that it would need to invite Mrs. Saraki when she left the Government House with her husband in 2011. And why should the invitation come a few days after a senator threatened that his group would bring the senate president down?

We also think that the same witch-hunt that the wife of the senate president is suffering now is the same thing happening to his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who the police have been disturbing. But at the right time, we will jointly make our opinion known on the harassment of our leaders.

President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected the proposal of the state house to procure five armoured cars, Benz S-600 (V222)  valued at N400 Million (Approx. $2M). The president got to know of the plan when the Permanent secretary of the state house, Mr Nebolisa Emodi  was letting him know of the ministry activities on Wednesday.

Mr Buhari hearing about the armoured vehicles told Emodi that the purchase was unnecessary, and the cars should not be purchased at a time of scarce resources, he further said the cars used by the past government of president Jonathan is good for him.

He further said that all activities of the state house must be within the approved budget. He approved other activities and welcomed other initiatives of the house to reduce spending and operating costs of the state house and strengthen its Finance and Accounts Internal Control Mechanisms.

Confirming the new is the Senior special assistant to the president, Shehu Garba. He said that Buhari had halted the purchase of the cars, and he had said he will use the cars of the past government.

The purchase of the new cars was said to be presented to the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, but he didn't approve it since the car delivery will be after the May 29th handover, he however, suggested that the purchase proposal be presented to the incoming president, Muhammadu Buhari, who on Wednesday put a stop to it.

fricans read this piece me as Africans, You non-Africans please read with an open mind.

Have you ever wondered why Africans never developed till date? We have 53 countries in Africa and all this African countries can’t even compare to a 95% of other countries out there.

In this column, I will be bringing my spotlight on Nigeria and other African countries in general. You ask why focus on Nigeria? It is because, it is the Elephant or the heart of Africa. But if you think Nigeria is the heart of Africa, then I can tell you confidently, African needs a heart transplant.

I will say this now and will say it again. Africa will never ever develop, it will remain the way it is now and in a long time unless something is done. African Union, where we all think the leaders discuss about the progress of Africa might just be a meeting of discussing how much money each leader already stole away from their countries.

According to World Bank data 2010, Sub Saharan Africa countries are the poorest continent with 48.5%...And part of these countries include Nigeria.

              Diary of a failed Nigeria

Other countries continue to mock Africa because of its poverty, African leaders in their countries have mismanaged their economy and the people they were supposed to serve, and just like the colonial masters taking Africans away for slavery, a lot of African leaders have turned their people to slave even in their countries.

Is Africa that poor? No.. A lot of media talk or stories not based on fact shows Africa is a poor place where people live less than a dollar a day, but this was not supposed to be the case, but the leaders in Africa have decided to fill up their pocket with riches and the little drop from the fill up is what the masses get.

In this write-up, I will share with you some corruption that will make Nigeria and other Africa countries be at a standstill.

      Money Mismanagement

Nigeria Is 54 years old, Ohh boy, I weep for a country dead on arrival, but the citizens don’t know it. Sometimes I think Nigeria was not matured enough for its independence at the time the British decided to let it go and some people just connived together to get independence for their personal interest (No offense).

Corruption is everywhere in the world(Fact), when I write everywhere, I mean everywhere in the whole wide world, you see corruption, but Nigerians have upped this game of corruption so high, Nigeria or African leaders version of corruption might need a new name.

As an African child, have you ever wished that your parent was part of the slave back then and you are now a Portuguese, Canadian or American citizen now? Even though, they face a lot back then and still facing now, but the peace of mind and the less insults you get when you stepped out of your country is minimally reduced.

Nigerians leaders continue to loot from the first day we gained independence and are still looting till now.. None of the leaders in Nigeria are loyal, don’t believe in that, “ I am the best or the holiest president” . It’s a lie. They all stole billions of dollars.

When the military ruled the country, they keep giving out oil blocks to relatives and awarding contracts to themselves. We were hoping civilian rulers would change all that and make us all proud. But it is still the same way it used to be.

How can a nation of 54 years still don’t have a 24 hours electricity and running pipe-borne water. Every four years we see a new leader forced on Nigeria. Note that this write-up is not talking about the current administration, but talking about the start of the country itself. The same thing we hear every 4 years includes:

Good electricity for the people.

Good roads for the people

Good water for the people of the country

Security

Good jobs

Agriculture… and bla bla bla

These phrases are what are mostly used in every campaign, check campaign videos on YouTube. This is what a country of 54 years after independence is been saying since it was allowed to govern itself. Nothing is working. Nigeria the heart of Africa is a failed nation. Other countries are working on developing their ties with smaller nation, Nigeria is being called under-developed from its day 1, till now, the name never changes, after 54 years….That is a basic definition of failure, because a fool at 40…you go ahead and complete it..

The looting of Nigeria money did not just start from the federal level.. It is from the grassroots. From the local level to the state and then federal level. People have seen politics in Nigeria as a shortcut to be millionaires or billionaires depending on the office you hold.

Everything still remains the way it used to be since the nation’s independence on Oct. 1st 1960.

Do you know that when governors are elected to power, they create a proxy company or have a joint collaboration with top construction companies in Nigeria? So they award big projects to this company in billions of dollars, but will carry out a dead projects for the people that collapse every 4 years, so when they leave, the road or building is already looking bad.

Recently a leak was revealed by the media on how some ex-governors signed a pension law that will make them to continue receiving money/pensions after they leave office.

This is currently happening in the 36 states in Nigeria, but recently 3 of them were leaked to the public and they are:

Akwa-Ibom State: N100M FOR MEDICAL (Converting this amount on xe.com is roughly $612,000) . And will also get the same salary as the incumbent governor for life.

Lagos State Governor: Will get 6 new cars every 3 years, a house in Lagos worth 500million Naira and another one in Abuja, state capital worth 700 million Naira. Also will be paid 100% of what the incumbent governor is getting.

500 million Naira = $3.6 million

700 million Naira=$4.3 million

Rivers State: 3 new cars every 4 years, have his own house anywhere he wants it. Receives the same money as the incumbent, medicals for the whole family and more.

These are people who served and can get themselves properties anywhere in the world. They served us for 4 years and we will serve them till they die? Why 6 cars in a poor country that lives below 1 dollar? How much is a premium insurance from the best insurance company in the world?

You think Nigeria is poor? Think again

Do you know about the news that was recently posted about a $50 billion missing in the NNPC (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) ? After a lot of abracadabra, it was later said, it was not up to that amount and the missing money is just $20 billion. That is ok, According to Deola of Sahara reporter’s calculation, which I agree with

Nigeria don’t have a modern international hospital, if you don’t know, most Nigerians are sent to the US or India, while some go to Germany for treatment. They even go there when they have a slight headache.

I am sure you remember Late President Yar’adua was sent to Germany before his death, Wife of the current President was at the German hospital for food poisoning that almost took her life, Patience Jonathan. They all don’t trust our medical facilities here and won’t improve it for the low class citizen

Nigerians, let’s calculate our losses in Black and White…..

From 20 billion dollars, if Nigeria removed just $50million to build its hospitals, Nigeria will have over 400 international standard and modern equipped hospitals.

Do you know Nigerians don’t have a running railway line, instead they have decided to get some used, looking horrible trains from some other countries. WHAT A SHAME

If Nigeria government decided to build a running railway line, a perfect major railway lines that will be interstate for its people just like the one you have in China. The Nigerian government can have one with $3billion only, just from it’s missing $20billion. Instead they are buying a locomotive train with a

Dingi don dingi don…..pooooo… sound …..SHAME.

Have you been to Nigerian Universities recently? Nothing is working, the hardship of studying in a Nigeria University is too much. If they decided to use this money to build a modern nice university of high standard. They will build 40 beautiful universities in Nigeria with just $500million. And Nigeria is just a country with 36 states, which means each state will have its own university. Instead, they keep increasing money for university students and won’t pay their lecturers, remember the last strike, it took almost 4 months, and nobody cares because their own kids studied abroad. Poor youths.

Ok, let’s forget all that, if the Nigeria government decides to use the money for electricity issues that plagued the country for 54 years, Nigeria will build 4 different dams that will generate 24 hours supply for its people…4 dams Nigeria…So nobody will have to shout UP NEPA, the electricity is off and back on.

The chairman of the Central bank of Nigeria that revealed this secret was sacked weeks after this revelation and humiliated…Are they hiding something?

Nigeria will remain in it’s stagnant position of corruption in a long time unless something is done.

Everybody is absolutely corrupt in it’s government level. Whether short, tall, light or dark, all corrupt. They come on twitter to tell you how good they were and how good they will transform you. It is all poetry, a complete lie. Nigerians don’t still get it…..

I will take you through different chapters of my opinions. And I am sure you will reason with me when am done. Remember Africa is not a poor continent, Nigeria is rich, Africa is great but they have bad leaders.

Share this message until someone that will act can lay his hand on it, don’t sleep Nigerian youths, looks like somebody is enjoying your days with theirs….
