Pledge of allegiance

One Indiana mom,Jamie Porter is not happy with the Elementary teacher and principal of his son's school after they allegedly forced the boy to recite the pledge of Allegiance.

Porter said that the teacher removed her boy from class when he refused to recite the pledge in March, and according to a lawsuit by the ACLU, the boy decided not to recite the pledge because he was protesting the government.

The lawsuit stated;

He was doing it to protest the government of the United States, as it was racist, greedy and does not care about people.

Kelly McFarland, the teacher of the boy after hearing the reasons for the boy's behaviour took him to Principal Mary Beth Harris office, and 20 Minutes later was asked to go back to class, but the principal did not stop there after he went back to the boy before the end of the day, and took him out of the class to"practice" how to recite the pledge of allegiance.

The lawsuit reads that the student "was extremely upset at this treatment by his teacher and the principal as he was made to feel that he had done something terribly wrong and was in trouble." And Porter believes forcing her son to recite the pledge is infringing on her son's First Amendment rights.

Porter said they are seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the incident.

A spokesperson for the school district responding to the issue said "We are currently reviewing the complaint with our legal counsel and have been advised not to comment on pending litigation."
