27 Dead As Bomb Detonated In Erawan Shrine In Thailand

A bomb explosion in Central Bangkok intersection during a rush hour on Monday, killing 27 people and 78 other people injured.

A spokesman for Thailand's ruling junta, Maj. Gen. Weerachon Sukhondhapatipak, said that 2 other bombs were found at the scene, he said at least one detonated. Among the injured are also foreigners in the country, as Thailand is one of the largest destinations for tourists.

   

The explosion happened at Rajprasong intersection, a place that had witnessed many contentious political administrations in recent years.It happened in front of Erawan shrine, a tourist landmark and also popular with Thais.

   

According to Weerachon, the first bomb was found in the shrine compound, while the other bomb was found in the opposite complex.

  

There has been tension in Thailand after the military government announces it will not hold elections until 2017 and wants a constitution that will allow for some type of emergency rule to take the place of elected government.
