Ekiti State Assembly Moves To Impeach Governor Ayo Fayose For Gross Misconduct

An 18 man legislators have started the impeachment process of Governor Ayo Fayose, the governor of Ekiti State. The governor was alleged of gross misconduct and investigations have commenced.

According to Sahara reporters, who obtained the documents of his impeachment notice said that the governor was being investigated for various acts of gross misconduct. The governor who was elected governor of Ekiti state June 2014 defeated the incumbent governor, Governor Kayode Fayemi of the APC (All progressive Congress) in the state.

But recently, an audio surfaced online that shows Governor Ayo Fayose, Musiliu Obanikoro, Minister for Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan and former Senator Iyiola Omisore ordering Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh to arrest top APC members in the state to allow an easy victory for the governor in the poll.

One of the legislators in Ekiti State told our correspondent, “We are going to look at the allegations against Governor Ayodele Fayose in a responsible manner and make our decision in line with the rule of law and the overall interest of the people of the state.”

Asked to comment on the timing of the impeachment plot, a week after the APC’s presidential candidate won last weekend’s presidential election, the legislator said the assembly was already working on the issue before the elections of March 28. “I can assure you that this is not a case of partisan witch-hunt,” the lawmaker said. He added, “We are approaching the investigation with an open mind. No conclusions can be reached without a thorough investigation.”

Governor Ayo Fayose had tried different plots to stop the presidential candidate of the APC, General Muhammadu Buhari from winning the last election, telling Nigerians the president is old and probably wearing pampers, such a man cannot rule a country like Nigeria.

He had also accused the president of being sick and that he might die soon if Nigerians voted for the APC candidate. He had released a lot of different press statement from his state going against the president's ambition of becoming the Nigerian president.

Governor Ayo Fayose was not investigated by the Nigerian government, President Goodluck Jonathan had turned a deaf ear to the accusation and said the audio tape was not true unless Sgt. Koli who released the tape could come back to Nigeria to prove that it was true, leaving Nigerians electorate disappointed.

A lot of people had accused President Goodluck Jonathan of supporting the election malpractices that occurred in the state during the state election, and it was confirmed by the then minister of defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro who said to General Momoh in the audiotape

  I am not here for tea party, am here on behalf of the president. Look here, If i am a happy man tomorrow, heaven is not your limit.

Governor Ayo Fayose was impeached in October 2006 for different corruption charges, in 2014, Governor Ayo Fayose came back again as a PDP flag bearer for the governor of Ekiti state, and he won the incumbent governor.

Governor Fayose had promised to deliver Ekiti state in the presidential poll if elected as Governor of the state, a promise which he kept at the last presidential election.
