Freddie Gray Dies One Week After Police Arrested Him, Spinal Cord Severely Injured

A lot of questions have emerged, but with just few answers after a young black male, Freddie Gray dies in police custody exactly one week after taken away by the police. His death has raised a lot of questions and the circumstances of his death are unclear.

The Baltimore City Mayor, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said :

The questions that many of you have are the same questions that we're asking: How was Mr. Gray injured? Were our proper protocols and procedures actually followed? What are the next steps to take from here?"

Also the Attorney for the family, William Murphy Jr said in a press statement that :

On last Sunday morning at about 8 a.m., the police chased Freddie Gray, a ... healthy man, without any evidence he had committed a crime. His take-down and arrest without probable cause occurred under a police video camera, which taped everything including the police dragging and throwing Freddy into a police vehicle while he screamed in pain.

He lapsed into a coma, died, was resuscitated, stayed in a coma and on Monday, underwent extensive surgery at Shock Trauma to save his life. He clung to life for seven days and died today at approximately 7 a.m. We believe the police are keeping the circumstances of Freddie's death secret until they develop a version of events that will absolve them of all responsibility.

Gray's spinal cord was severely injured

The police in Baltimore have not said much about the case, but the Baltimore police Chief,  Capt. Eric Kowalczyk while answering question on what happened when police first encountered Gray, he said that the police have been working in an area known for violent crime and drug sales, and when an officer approached Gray in that area, he fled.

This is coming amidst recent killings of black males in the US. Some recent killings involve Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Walter Scott. Last week, we revealed that 255 black people have been killed recently by the police in USA. Click to see 255 black people killed in USA.
