NAFDAC Arrests Man Producing Fake Alomo Bitters

NAFDAC have put a man, Magnus Onyenkwu Ezeago for producing fake labeling, stocking and distributing of fake Alomo bitters, a popular alcoholic drink by kasaprenko. According to officer  agency’s Public Relations Officer, Enforcement Operations, Mr. Anslem Okonkwor, Magnus, who resides at No 27 Toyin Street, Oke, Ibadan, Oyo State. is standing trial for unlawful production and distribution of unwholesome processed foods.

              

According to the prosecuting counsel,Mr. Bartholomew Simon, Ezeago committed the offence in his residence in Ibadan and the offences contravened the Sections 1 (a), 5 (a) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome processed foods (Miscellaneous Provision) Act Cap C34, Laws of the Federation 2004 and punishable under Sections 3 (1) (a) and 17 of the same Act.

Ezeago pleaded not guilty to the charges, the prosecutor then asked the court to remand Mr Ezeago in prison custody pending trial, however, the counsel to the accused, Mr. Olusegun Akanbi urged the court to allow him to make an oral application for bail.

The judge presiding over the case,  Justice Mohammed Yunusa, in his ruling said he wanted the bail to be made formally. He then ordered that Ezeago be remanded in prison custody until his next hearing for a bail application on August 20.

Magnus Onyenkwu Ezeago has been on NAFDAC wanted list since January, but he had escaped arrest, until the NAFDAC office in Ibadan arrested him last week.
