New Ransomware Lures User To Download Porn App, Then Lock Them Out On Android Phones

Security experts from Zscaler have warned users of a new mobile ransomware that gains access to owners smartphone. The new app called "Adult player" with a porn-like icon offers free pornography for users.

When an Android user download the "Adult Player" app and launched it, it instead takes a photo of the owner using the front facing camera. The owner will then receive a message on the lock screen, demanding for $500.

Just like the "Cryptolocker" on PC, users are left with no option, but pay the money.

On a blogpost, Zscaler confirmed that ;

This ransomware acts as a porn app named "Adult Player" and lures victims who assume it is a pornographic video player. When the victim starts using it, the app silently takes a photo of the victim, which is then displayed on the ransomware screen, along with the ransom message.

The app demands a ransom of 500 USD.

The "Adult Player" is not available on the Google Play Store or Apple Store.

Zscaler advised smartphone users not to download apps from unofficial source.
