#SaveKanoNine :Nigerians Cries Out On The Death Sentence Of 9 Muslims Over A Case Of Religious Blasphemy

Kano, Nigeria : Nigeria is a country of roughly 200 million people, struggling to make ends meet, but still lives under the $1 clause. The country is divided into 2 main religions, Christianity and Islam, and these two religions have defined most things that happen in the country, while the Northern part of the country is known for its highly concentration of Muslims, the Other part of the country is concentrated with Christians. Though you have other religions in the country, but the truth remains that the country is dominated by these 2 religions, Christianity and Islam.

A lot of killings is been happening in the Northern part of the country by the deadly sect, Boko Haram, rendering both Christians and Muslim homeless, they mostly committed their crime using the name of Allah, something many Muslims have denied is in the name of their God.

Muslims in Kano will deal with anybody that mocks the name of Prophet Muhammed or tear the holy Koran. This case had happened in Kano before where a mad man was beheaded for tearing a page of the Koran and cleaning up himself after using the toilet. Another case outside Africa happened in Afghanistan, after a woman was killed because someone lied that she burnt the pages of the Koran.

So when a trend, #SaveKanoNine was started by a Twitter user, @generaliy07, we decided to check it out. And this is what is happening in Kano that Nigerians and the world needs to know.

On Thursday, 26th of June, 2015, a Sharia court in Kano put a Abdul-Inyas and Hajiya Mairo to death on the charges of blasphemy. The judgement was like winning a lottery for Kano people as they dance and celebrated the victory, this was followed by a statement from the state government, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who said the death penalty will serve as a warning to other people who is planning of doing the same.

Nigeria is a country with mixed religion and it is illegal for any religious court to sentence any of its citizens to death without normal law proceedings following the constitution of the country.

People in the North are being killed by Boko Haram everyday, and they have to sleep with just one eye closed, why do we still sentence people to death again in a country with a judicial system. Nigerians should not only speak against these, but make sure the Nine Kano citizen are freed and protected when released by the court.

Two months ago, a court house was set on fire because the judge released someone that was accused of blasphemy to Prophet Muhammed.

Nigerians have started the campaign on Twitter, and everyone should get involved. See some tweet from Nigerians going against the death penalty
