Student Killed Teacher In Front Of Classmates

A schoolboy, Will Cornick  is serving a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years in jail after stabbing 61-year-old Spanish, Ann Maguire multiple times. Will killed the teacher after he was told that he could not drop Ann's subject.

Will Cornick had written different threat on social media that he would kill the teacher. Ann Maguire meanwhile, was about to retire from the Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds, when she was stabbed and killed by the 15-year old.

                 

Though Cornick parent had divorced, but it was reported the had a happy childhood from both his parents.

He had reported to have a problem when he started at the school, but his head of year had commented that he was "a delightful pupil" and when he was in Year 10, Ms Ann Maguire wrote;

"William is a bright conscientious young man."

In 2013, Cornick had told a friend about his hatred for Ms Maguire, and talks about his plan to brutally kill her.

According to the report, there was a disagreement between Cornick and Maguire over a detention. His parents later said that the relationship between Cornick and Ms Maguire had "broken down" over his will to drop Spanish.

The school refused Cornick demands to drop Spanish as he was due to get better grades.

During another chat after he lost protest to drop Spanish, he had another chat with his friend and he wrote that Ms Maguire;

  Deserves more than death more than pain, torture and more than anything that we can understand.

Four days before the murder, he had told other students about his plan, and make his final decision. He had decided he would kill his current head of year and another teacher and her unborn baby.

The Day Of Murder

On the morning of April 28,  Cornick packed a rucksack containing a small craft knife and a kitchen knife as well as a bottle of whiskey. After the start of the day, he made another statement about his intention to kill Ms Maguire.

                      

Many of the students had heard him talk about the killing of the Spanish teacher, but never took him seriously as they believed it is only a dark humour.

During a Spanish lesson, Cornick picks up the larger knife and stabbed Maguire twice at the upper back and neck seven times from behind.

According to the report,

There were no credible 'warning signs' - behaviours or antecedent behaviours - that could or should have been picked up by agencies or professionals leading up to the murder.
