Thailand King, Bhumibol Adulyadej Dies After Ruling For 70 Years

World longest reigning monarch,King Bhumibol Adulyadej, 88, from Thailand is dead. The kind had ruled Thailand for 70 years, but has been in a poor state of health in recent times.

The palace had warned that the king health was "not stable" on Sunday. After the news, a lot of Thai people had been wearing pink clothes as it is believed to bring good luck to their sick king, while hundred gathers outside the hospital where he is being treated.

               

The heir to the throne is  63-year-old Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, but does not attract much affection like his father. Public discussion of the succession is punishable by lengthy jail terms.

King Bhumibol is seen as a semi-divine person, and Thais look forward to him whenever there is high-tension in the land. He is also seen as a unifying power and believed to have calm influences on different political tension in the country.

He assumed the throne on 9 June 1946 after his brother, King Ananda Mahidol demise. 

King Bhumibol was born in Cambridge in the US state of Massachusetts.
