Liberland

A Czech citizen, Vit Jedlicka has created a new European nation called the free republic of Liberland. The country is disputed by both Serbian and Croatian government, but none owns it.

Liberland is a 7km2 stretch of land on the west bank of the Dunube river between Serbia and Croatia. The new republic, which already has its own Flag, motto, website and coat of arms is becoming popular and receiving new applications from people who would like to be a citizen. Jedlicka had called 5,000 people to become part of the new nation, but almost 160,000 people already signed up, but a team of seven in the new country are looking through the applications in selecting the best candidate.

The idea of a new nation comes as a political stunt and protest as Jedlicka is a member of a group,Free Citizens of the Czech Republic. The group became real, got support and Jedlicka thought it wise to go ahead and form a nation. It gained more popularity when Jedlicka made it known that anyone living there won’t be oppressed by the government.

The motto for the new country is" Live and let live"
