Transgender

The transgender community in New Orleans is on edge after two transgender women were killed within 48 hours of each other.

Chyna Gibson, one of the transgender women killed was gunned down on Saturday night, while the other victim was found with multiple stab wounds on Monday morning. The police are looking for the killers of this act, but have not linked the two killings to each other.

While speaking to the police, transgender activist, Daphanie Dupree  said;

It's scary because like a lot of the girls in New Orleans, they're walking around like zombies, you know they have this little hidden fear that's inside them to even go anywhere and I hear a lot of them talking about like 'oh, I'm going to carry a gun.

It's very heartbreaking and it's scary because it's too close to home, I mean it could happen to any of us but I'm like -- we hang in the same circles, we hang in the same area just like it happened to them it could happen to me.

Speaking at a media conference, the police Cmdr. Doug Eckert said that the killings of the two women shows the violence against transgender people in the Louisiana city. Doug said;

I mean one is too many, and that's how we feel. If we learn that it's a hate crime, of course, we'll pursue the charges of that.

Police have also put out a search for the owner of a black Chevrolet Camaro in regards to the homicide

President Donald Trump is reversing one of former president Obama policies on Transgender bathrooms. The Obama administration has allowed that transgender students be allowed to use the bathrooms of their gender identity in schools, or they risk federal funding.

The new sheriff in town, and a conservative president Trump, is looking to reverse the policy. Though the Obama policy was put on hold by a federal judge, arguing that states and schools should be able to make the decision without federal interference, Trump administration has decided to revoke the policy.

In protest of the new decision, more than 200 people gathered in front of the White house and waved the rainbow flag, chanting;

               "No hate, no fear, trans students are welcome here."

Rachel Tiven, chief executive of Lambda Legal, which advocates for LGBT people in a statement said;

We all know that Donald Trump is a bully, but his attack on transgender children today is a new low

A conservative judge and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who spearheaded the challenging the Obama policies on the bathroom guideline hailed the new Trump decision on the bill, and said;

Our fight over the bathroom directive has always been about former President Obama's attempt to bypass Congress and rewrite the laws to fit his political agenda for radical social change.
