Foreigners Stealing From Luxury Hotels Arrested And Sentenced To Jail In Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi, Vietnam: Two foreigners living in the capital city of Vietnam, Hanoi, have been sentenced to prison. The duos were sentenced to court by Hanoi people's court for stealing from other foreigners staying in luxury hotels in Hanoi.

William Rafael Aguilar Villanueva, 43, and  Jose Marcelino Velasquez Aviles, 62, are Peruvians who had met themselves while applying for a Vietnam visa from Cambodia. It was a meeting of "great minds" to the duos as they had planned to steal from other foreigners staying in luxury hotels, so they both exchanged numbers and contacted themselves while in Hanoi. Though the 2 men stayed in different motels in the city, they get into the luxury hotels by carrying a bag and a suit where they could hide their stolen items after the loot. The items, mostly stolen by the men include purses, cameras and cellphones.

The men were arrested on January 8 while trying to sell an iPad they had stolen from a Canadian. William Rafael Aguilar Villanueva will serve 9 months while Jose Marcelino Velasquez Aviles will serve 7 months.

The Hanoi police department started an investigation to catch the criminals after several complaints was made by different hotels of people stealing from their hotel guests.
