#JusticeForJustin: Students Dies In Benson Idahosa Medical Centre Allegedly Due To Nurses Negligence

Nigerian Twitters users started a trend, #JusticeForJustin to allow government and school authorities investigate a case of a 200 level student, Justin Nnamdi Ukwu. A case Nigerians students believe was handled with levity by the nurses on duty the day he died.

According to a Twitter user, Chukwuebuka Akara @ebuka_akara, his friend, Justin Nnamdi Ukwu, a 200 level undergraduate student of international studies and diplomacy at the Benson Idahosa University was admitted at the medical centre at Benson Idahosa University on Sunday, May 24th, 2015, the drips were administered to him, but no food was not given to him despite the pleas from his friend to do so, and they also asked that he should be given maximum attention.

On 26th of May, 2015, around 9:12am, a call was placed to him from a number, 08188781415, informing him that Justin is been moved from the school  Medical Center to their affiliated Clinic, Faith Mediplex to receive blood transfusions and should be discharged later that day.

But on 12:17am, Justin dad received a call from Dr Idahosa of Faith Mediplex that the condition of his son is critical. Justin Dad travelled from Port-Harcourt to Benin, and was at the hospital around 5:17pm, while at the hospital, nobody attended to him for another 30minutes.

When he could not take it any longer, he insisted to have an update on his son, but was told that the boy had just died of Sickle cell crisis at 2:15pm that day. That came as a surprise to everybody as it was revealed that Justin is of the AS genotype.

The friends later revealed that while Justin was sick at the hospital, the nurses were not attending to him, instead they were busy watching the TV drama, Telemundo.

The death of Justin is raising a series of questions from friends and Twitter users who had been following the death of Justin Nnamdi Ukwu. Some questions are  raised :

How can nurses put in charge of ailing patients prefer to watch Telemundo when a patient is in critical condition?
How can Benson Idahosa uni. Medical staff just takes the life of a human being and classify him as Sickle cell?

Since the incident happened, Benson Idahosa school management or medical centre has not met with the parents of the deceased or anything about his death. Also, all letters demanding the medical report on Justin's death have not been replied, and said they couldn't find it.

Doy News reporter placed a call to the Matron at University college hospital, Ibadan to ask about the sickle cell crisis and get more information, we were told that the only people that get the sickle cell crisis are people with the SS blood group because of the structure of their cell, and AS should not have the crisis.
