Nigerians Remembers Dagrin, An Icon For Indigenous Rappers

It is six years since he left with just an album, and left the world without telling nobody. Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, popularly known as Dagrin was involved in an accident that took the rappers life and that of the passenger who was with him.

The young star died at 22 after he suddenly acquired the limelight by rapping in Yoruba language, English and Pidgin English. Today marks the sixth year he died and fans had took to social media to talk about him, and pray for his family.

Dagrin came and he changes the whole game for Yoruba rappers, some of which was not taken seriously before he came to the game. Dagrin started doing the Pidgin English mixed with the Yoruba raps, and the whole neighbourhood will nod their head as he talks about his struggle, his pain, how he had to steal from people to make a living, and thanks God for making him a better person.

His album was accepted nationwide, and even young kids would say "Pon Pon Pon", a slang to tell an individual, you are a mighty person and can control thing, just like himself.

The name "Dagrin" is currently trending on Twitter Nigeria today.
