Vietnam Airline Pilot, Flight Attendant Arrested For Smuggling Gold In Shoe Soles

Busan, South Korea: A pilot of Vietnam airline and another flight attendant have been arrested after they tried to smuggle 6kg gold bar into South Korea. The flight crew were arrested at Gimhae International airport, South Korea.

                    

According to South Korean media, the incident happened last Friday, 10-3-2015 after the Vietnam flight (VN 426) landed at Gimhae international airport, the pilot and flight attendant had hidden the gold bar inside their shoe sole, and not declaring the gold bar to the authorities. They were later caught as they tried to make it through the metal detector at the airport.

Captain Nguyen Van Dung and flight attendant Nguyen Tan Phong and were arrested for not declaring the gold bars. Both later said they were paid $250 for each gold bar successfully transported to South Korea. Both captain and flight attendant did not know they were both smuggling, South Korean media reported.

As reported by Vietnam Airlines, Korean authorities have no official information to Vietnam. Currently, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam continues to coordinate with Vietnam Airlines to monitor the situation closely related to the evolution of the above.
