Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha is dead

The former and first executive governor of Bayelsa state, Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, 62, is dead. According to family sources, the former governor fell ill in his hometown at a township of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State, and was rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) in Rivers State.

Alamieyeseigha who was jailed in UK for corruption during the Obasanjo led government was pardoned by his former deputy governor and former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan. The Buhari led administration has been tackling corruption and the UK have requested that Alamieyeseigha be extradited back to the UK over an unfinished corruption and money laundering cases. A move a group loyal to  Alamieyeseigha said is only a political vendetta.

Alamieyeseigha jumped bail in 2005 in the UK after he disguised as a woman and ran back to Nigeria, though he denies the claim.
