This is a time you have hundred of web hosting countries in different countries and it is a tough competition between web hosting companies. But from all indications, One.com web hosting doesn't seems to care about the competition but will prefer to stay in their old ways of doing things. This company i will say will be fine for people who have no knowledge of what other web hosting are offering.
My recent experience with one.com is horrible and i will share the experience in summary
Customer Service : One of the features of a good web hosting company is a customer service you can call 24/7. This is because we all live in different time zones. One.com is readily available, they will chat with you, maybe you can be on a queue for few hours just like on go daddy, but at least you get someone talking to you. My problem here is no phone call. Why won't one.com have a toll free line you can just ring when you need them. Somethings are urgent and you want it to be done at that minute. Nah, you need to wait in queue to get response.
Sometimes they make you feel like they don't have a record. This is because when you chat with a representative, and you decides to consult them again, the next person might say something different from the first staff.
Website Incompatibility With Google Chrome: It is 2015, but do you believe that one.com website is not compatible with chrome. I was told by their customer service representative(CSR) to try another browser when i tired to login to their services, i tried Mozilla and it actually works. When i asked her why the website won't work on Chrome, she could not give a reason...Just bla bla bla.
To use Chrome, i had to clear all my history and caches. I do this every time i want to use one.com services. Else it will tell you "wrong username and password" even when it's the right login information
So if you login in 2 seconds, the same information you used before logging out cannot be used any longer. You need to clear your browser cache again.
No Daily Backups /No Good Records : If you see One.com telling you of daily backups, make sure you understand the clause.Moment you have a problem and ask for a backup plan, the Story will change. After my files were overwritten by a Palestinian hacker that wants me to stop blowing up his country when i never even spent full 30mins in a militaRy barracks. I asked one.com CSR to provide me a backup zipped folder of the last time the files where fine. She told me my website had been hacked since November 2012 and they don't have a backup of files that long. I told her if they do keep records at all. The website had an injected malware before it was redesigned again and that was a long time, around 2012.
I told her the website was probably hacked a week to the time of the report, since she could not provide answer, she played the 7-days card with me. Oh sorry sir from what i can see from our records, the website is been down for more than 1 week. And we don't have backup dating more than 7 days. So the website file of 7 days is hacked too. Even though i know this is a lie, i am also sure they probably dont keep 7 days records, looks like a 24 hour backups before files are renewed again. No good records, no backup
This is after going back and forth for 4 days, imagine if my website is an e-commerce website where people have to keep buying.. Can you imagine how much will be gone.
No Cpanel/Plesk : As someone that wants to do what needed to be done in few minutes, i have accustomed myself to the knowledge of using cPanel until i came to one.com. Do you know one.com don't have a cpanel. Which means if you are using a CMS open source on one.com, this is a mojo killer. You will need to upload each file one by one.
n my usual fashion, i asked the CSR, you guys don't have cPanel, this was last year, he said Yes. We are yet to implement it. I went further and asked when do you plan to do this, he said he is not sure, but they will look into it as i have said and some does ask. I laughed so hard and just felt sorry for people using this service. Am sure their loyal customers are people who had not tasted other spices from other web hosting company.
As at 2015 after the attack, they still don't have it. So it took me nearly 1 hour to upload all my files via Filezilla FTP. Uploading a file via cpanel is less than 10 minutes tops. It is neat and you can see what you are doing clearly. Though the csr gave me few FTP website to transfer my files, i was still disappointed at One.com not having a cpanel in 2015.
You won't believe since 2012, one.com seems not to change and will not change.
