The supreme people's court in China has sentenced a former elementary teacher in Gansu province to death.
The teacher Li Jishun was put to death after the court finds out the teacher had sexually abused 26 students of age 4-11 when he was teaching the children in the year 2011-2012. The teacher took advantage of the timid and childish students to commit his act in the classrooms and dormitories.
Li was put to death by the Intermediate People's Court of Tianshui City. The judge at the Supreme peoples' court said that Li was given the heaviest punishment because of his extremely social negative impact on the children and the harm cause to the girls.
Sexual abuse cases are on the rise, with more than 7,145 cases handled by courts between 2012-2014.
