The latest shooting at Umpqua Community College tragedy will make it the 15th times President Barack Obama will address Americans on mass shootings, telling Americans to politicize the event to effect change. A visibly angry Obama said;
I said each time we see one of these mass shootings, our thoughts and prayers are not enough," he said tensely. "It does not capture the heartache and grief and anger that we should feel. And it does nothing to prevent this carnage from being inflicted someplace else in America — next week, or a couple of months from now."
Obama has also called on reporters to let people know the number of people that lost their lives in gun violence. Thousands of people have died in gun violence more than people that died in 9/11. According to Stanford University Geospatial Center's definition, mass shooting occurs whenever the attacker kills 3 people, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation said four. Terrorist attack has a narrow definition; They must have a political, economic, religious or social goal and aim to intimidate a larger group, whether that be the national population or the government.
The Data from Standford and Maryland shows that since 1995 there have been 376 incidents of terrorism and 117 gun violence attacks. But while terrorism incidents are common and includes wider range, mass shootings have higher body counts.
