brendan rogers sacked

Brendan Rodgers, 42, has been relieved of duties as Liverpool FC manager after a 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday. Rodgers was sacked after Liverpool had only won 3 games from the 8 games they had played in this Premiership season.

Rodgers had nearly won the Premiership title in 2012, but the team finished the season 2 points behind Manchester City. The team finished 6th on the table last season, and sport analyst believed that Luiz Suarez and Daniel sturridge exits might have caused the team fEll to the 6th position.

The club is currently in the market for new managers, and Jorgen Klopp who left Borrusia Dortmund is the early front runner to replace Rodgers.

In a joint statement released by Fenway Sports Group principal owner John W Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president Mike Gordon, It reads;

We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Brendan Rodgers for the significant contribution he has made to the club and express our gratitude for his hard work and commitment. All of us have experienced some wonderful moments with Brendan as manager and we are confident he will enjoy a long career in the game.

Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch. Ambition and winning are at the heart of what we want to bring to Liverpool and we believe this change gives us the best opportunity to deliver it.

The search for a new manager is underway and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger while expressing his disappointment  over the sack of  Brendan Rodgers said;

I am always sad when this happens because I think Rodgers is a quality manager. He was very unlucky not to win the Premier League. He was the closest to the championship of all their managers who have been working for the club.

But that is the way it goes now and I wish him good luck. I am sure he will find a job again.
