Auckland, New Zealand: A Nigeria-led drug syndicate operating in New Zealand have received a lenghthy jail term for the import and possession of methamphetamine. The Nigerians received prison terms between 15 to 18 years after they were found guilty of several charges of drug importation and possession.
A New Zealander was also sentenced to 9 years for drug possession. Customs officials found methamphetamine with a street value of $1.5m in his luggage while returning from Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea in 2013.
The police launched an operation Codename "Operation Gatsby" after it learned that the NZ had no idea in was in possession of the drug, he was used as drug mules for an international syndicate, so Police also identified during the course of the operation, importation from the Phillipines and Cameroon, both containing 1.2kg of methamphetamine.
Two of the drug syndicate had been sentenced to smaller prison terms in 2014, and another earlier this year.
