A grandfather in south east Wales has killed his granddaughter because he is holding a grudge against his son-in-law. Mark Jones, a 45 year old man attacked the 5 weeks old baby fracturing her skull and ribs, and causing some swelling of the brain.
The man called 999 after the attack and said the baby had stopped breathing. It was revealed in court that Jones hates the baby's father, Ian Skillern who had left the man's daughter, Sarah Jones before baby Amelia Jones Rose was born.
Mark Jones had said to have attacked the baby on 3 different occasions when Baby Amelia was in his parental care. On November 17, 2012, he had called 999 saying that the baby was panicking for breath. Ambulance operator later told Mark Jones how to give CPR to the granddaughter. This happened when the mother went to the cinema with friends.
On the day the baby died, the medics had seen Mark Jones standing on the lifeless body of the baby, she was later rushed to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport to restore her pulse, but since the lady was not breathing, she was transferred to University Hospital Wales in Cardiff, where she later died as doctors could not bring her back to consciousness as she had suffered catastrophic brain injury. The injury caused a fracture to the back of her skull, her brains and fracture to her ribs.
The mother of the baby was arrested with the daughter, but was later released as police said she had nothing to do with the baby's death. After his arrest, the grandfather was said to have given the police four different stories to vindicate himself.
Mark Jones pleaded not guilty, he said, even if i don't like ian, father of the baby, i do not hold grudges against a baby. The trial is said to continue till April.
