Enugu, Nigeria : The tragedy of the Nigerian Immigration recruitment that killed almost 23 people in 2014 will not be easily wiped off Nigerian youth's memory. The latest recruitment woes was shared by a Nigerian via the online Nigerian forum, Nairaland by a username of Naira0.
The young man had been called for an interview at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Enugu branch. The man narrated that they were given numbers as they arrive at the venue of the interview , while the interviewee were waiting for their turn, the men of Federal Road Safety Command, Udi where the interview was taking place threw decorum into the air by inviting their own friends and also by selecting their own preferred candidates.
Around 5pm, Naira0 said that results were released and that candidates who had said to have high scores during interviews would not find their names on the list, and people who had scored less than 70% were asked to leave the compound.
The FRSC members told everyone to leave forcefully, and a lot of Nigerian youths were harassed while some were arrested. The commander of FRSC, Mrs Emeordi witnessed the events and did not stop the officers from harassing innocent Nigerian youths.
The FRSC acted only on their guts and not the FAAN official as no official statement was released. Also, no members of FAAN had come forward to address the situation or appeal to the applicants.
The narration of Naira0 is one of the pain Nigerians go through trying to get a job at government offices. The officials only advertised vacant positions to follow a government protocol that says that all open positions must be advertised in the Nigeria dailies and different media channel to allow open employment opportunities for Nigerians. Most times, the officials already have their own candidates that will be selected for open positions.
