Kasturi Munirathnam from Tamil Nadu, India, who was working as domestic help in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has been hospitalized after her employer chopped off her hand, two months after arriving to work in the country. The woman is currently admitted to the Kingdom hospital as she suffered from limbs and other body injuries.
The woman had only arrived Saudi Arabia in August, and was taken to Danam, but later transferred to Riyadh where only woman stayed.
Kasturi was given more work than she could imagine for a domestic help, and was not allowed to make calls to her relatives as she was barred from telephone conversations, and when she tried getting help from Tamil Nadu natives around, she was locked up in a room where she was tortured and was subjected to both physical and mental abuse. She later got death threats from the women she stayed with, and that was when she decided to run for the safety of her life.
Tamil Nadu was caught when she got out trying to escape from the windows, and her hand was chopped off by her employee.
The Indian embassy has met with Kasturi and also the Tamil Nadu wing of India social forum is taking care of the woman who is also the breadwinner of the family.
An investigation was carried out by the Al-Sahafa and reports have been submitted to the Saudi Arabia investigation bureau.
