An out-of-control wide fire has destroyed an entire neighbourhood, destroying houses, cars and business in Fort McMurray, Alta, Canada. In the late afternoon on Tuesday, more than 80,000 people have been ordered to evacuate the neighbourhood as thousands fled their houses, causing a gridlock on highway 63.
Police were seen patrolling the area with can of gas as fuel supply ran out in Fort McMurray, Wandering River and Grasslands.
According to Fire chief Darby Allen. the entire beacon hill neighbourhood has been lost in the fire, but no building was lost in the downtown area. Also, Allen said that no serious injuries or deaths in the fire
At 10.30pm on Tuesday, official report that Abasand, Wood Buffalo, Dickensfield, and Waterways saw only some damage.
Number of houses destroyed at the time of filing this report are not known.
Bruce Mayer with Alberta Forestry in a news conference said that;
This fire today with the temperature, the relative humidity … the fuel is very explosive out there right now.
Mayer said that the province has air tankers, a dozen helicopters, with more than 100 firefighters, and more are on their way. Firefighters are expecting a cold front to move into the area by mid-afternoon Wednesday, with winds gusting up to 50 km/h.
"So tomorrow is expected to be a more intense burning day than today is."
