Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam: Police in HCM city have arrested Ho Phuong Nga Truong, 28. Phuong was arrested in District 2, Ho Chi Minh after she was reported of defrauding a Russian of 16 billion Vietnamese Dong ($745,000).
Ho Phuong Nga Truong was known for winning the Miss Vietnam in the year 2007 contest that was held in Russia. According to reports, the Phuong and the Russian businessman have been close friends, and are seen eating out together and looks like they are dating.
Phuong later told the Russian that with her popularity and charisma in Vietnam, she could get him a good deal on real estate transaction. The man later gave Phuong a sum of 5.6 billion (260,768) to buy a house in the country, Phuong did not buy the house and told the man that she would need more money to close the transaction, prompting the Russian to release more money to the tune of ($745,000).
After she received the money, she did not deliver on the promise of the house, instead she cut off contact with the Russian who later reported the case to the Ho Chi Minh City police.
When the police saw the papers of payment signed by the businessman, they realised that all documents were forged and Ho Phuong Nga Truong had only planned with conmen and had only used sophistry to collect the money from the man.
The police ordered the immediate arrest of Ho Phuong Nga Truong and all her accomplices and are currently in detention.
